Duality is an ever-present phenomenon in our everyday lives. It’s an interplay between mind and matter that allows us to structure an understanding of our reality. Good versus evil, hot versus cold, right versus wrong, and the one that has emerged recently in the automotive world: form versus function. We develop these dichotomies to compare and contrast the objects that we encounter and they allow us to apply subjective values to them.

When it comes to a car that can “do it all” it’s really hard to top the Mazda Miata. Yes, the little roadster has a few stigmas attached to its name, but when you grow up and get beyond that these cars are a lot of fun. When you break it all down it does make sense; two-seater, RWD, roadster, huge aftermarket following, these cars are an absolute blast to drive and have plenty of options available when it comes to modifying them.

There years ago, on a cool summer Friday night, I stood in the garage, tinkering under the hood of a BMW while my roommates threw a bit of a house party. Just me and a few friends, polishing up parts to escape the blaring music and obnoxious college drunks. Amidst the chit chat, over what exactly I fail to remember, two young guys walked up, eager to see what we were up to. "We saw the party and figured it was okay to walk up."
